I have been trying to keep away from my computer more and more, the results can been seen in the Buffet posts becoming less frequent…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One person who would understand is Doug. Doug lives an isolated life in San Jose Bay, BC, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dutch photographer Karianne Bueno<\/a> has begun an intensive story about Doug and his choice to live off the grid. Knowing Karianne, Doug’s Cabin<\/strong> it will surely be a book someday, and probably a quite nice one. To help finance the trips she is offering special edition prints for a  great price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dear Doug,<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s
been quite a while now since we met, <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I hope you remember. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When
we arrived at your place in the forest <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

we had just started our
longest trip ever. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The land we travelled through was spectacular, <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 but your home at San Jo never left my thoughts. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A drowsy bear
crossed the long gravel road. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The dripping woods, the soft green
mossy grass, <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

the tree branches blocking the way. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The
campground seemed deserted. We parked <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

the car in an overgrown site
with rotten plastic <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

chairs. I walked around, puzzled. There were <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 the weather worn remains of a large, unfinished <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

building. A broken
car, a shed, and a cabin with <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

smoke coming out of the chimney.
Dark trees crept<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 in on the open space – wall-like, suffocating. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From
the steps that led up to the door of your <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

cabin I saw the interior
reflecting the haunted outside: <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

an unmade bed in the corner, a
wood stove, faded <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

postcards on the beams that supported a sooty
ceiling. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The small desk at the dirty window was covered with <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 papers and pictures of cougars and bears. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Then
you stood behind me, your hands black with <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

dirt, smiling. You
seemed happy to have guests so <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

late in the season. You showed us
the dark lake that <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

adjoined the campground, and a short cut along
a <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

muddy path to the beach, where we found sand <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

dollars in the
surf. How have you been? Did you <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

get a chance to work on the
hostel again? Or have <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

you really given up that dream? Did you get
through <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

the winters all right?<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When
we left in the morning you made me promise to <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

send you a postcard.
I bought one as soon as we <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

got home. It was only then that I found
out I had<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 lost your address. The card got lost in a drawer, <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

but I
never forgot about you or San Jo. Now it’s <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

time to track you down.
But no matter what I try, <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

your campground seems to have
disappeared from <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

the map. I’m sending this letter, along with the
card <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

and some pictures to the Holberg post office. I sure <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

hope to
find you this way. Because the forest calls. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I long to breathe the
damp air and learn to live in the wild. <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Doug
answered two weeks later by email. The few sentences <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

he wrote were
enough for me to decide to travel to San <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Josef Bay again and start a
new photo project, entitled <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Doug’s
Cabin<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span> for
now. What makes someone turn away <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

from society like that? How does
anyone survive in the <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

wilderness? I have always longed to escape, but
would<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 I actually be able to do it? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 2010 in the US and Canada, some on
Doug’s campground.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 I selected the photographs as a sequence that
recalls the <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

atmosphere of Doug’s surroundings. The purchase of one <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The
first results will be shown at the <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Unseen
