Like so many of her dutch colleagues, the design is top and I\u2019m not sure if she has many left as it is only an edition of 100 copies.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">From the text I gather that Caroline comes from a sculpture background, her text begins with an interesting statement:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">As a sculptor I have touched the boundaries of the landscape, only as a photographer have I been able, as it were, to enter it. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana; font-size: small;\">CW<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8216;Native soil&#8217; is printed on newspaper paper. It has 200 pages with 164 (full color) photos. <\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">The book has a traditional Japanese binding and an artificial leather cover with embossing. <\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">The sequence of the photo&#8217;s is determined by both the visual spreads, and the pages that are physically tied to one another; the traditional Japanese binding makes that front- and backside of each page together also make up for one spread.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">The images make subtle references to the circle: birth\/life\/aging\/death and, because the people, places and details are sometimes so intimate, it must be in the rural landscape where Caroline either lives or grew up; hence the title.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">Once again, here is a case of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carolinewaltman.nl\/?p=fotografie\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">the photographer having a better documentation<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\"> of the book than I manage to throw together.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":2905,"template":"","class_list":["post-2904","buffet","type-buffet","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.5 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Caroline Waltman - Native Soil - Andrew Phelps<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/buffet\/caroline-waltman-native-soil\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"de_DE\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Caroline Waltman - Native Soil - Andrew Phelps\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"Though it is from 2009, I just got a copy of Caroline Waltman\u2019s artist book Native Soil.
