The design is by <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kummer-herrman.nl\/works\/Domestic+Slavery\/1\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">Kummer and Herrman<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\"> who have done a much better job documenting the book than I have, so take a look at their <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kummer-herrman.nl\/works\/Domestic+Slavery\/1\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">site<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-59.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-859\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana, serif;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\";font-family: Georgia, serif;\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">Each image is loose and can be pulled out to create its own, stand alone image\/text tableau. The design, like the photography is very formal and reserved and in combination with the texts, which describe actual scenes of abuse and cruelty, we are confronted with the possibility that &#8220;behind the facade of the ordinary can lie a discomforting reality&#8230;&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana, serif;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">Raphael Dallaporta (photos) and Ondine Millot (texts) adress the tragic reality of domestic slavery; people, usually non-documented immigrants, being held against their will in countries where they have no voice. Though the names are changed, the stories are real and Dallaports distanced, non-sentimental images of the buildings &#8220;bear witness to the banality of everyday inhumanity&#8230;&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana, serif;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">They are only available through <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fotodok.org\/\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">FOTODOK<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">, the Utrecht based artists space for documentary photography where the work is currently on display in the <\/span><strong><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">(in)Visible<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\"> show.
