They both took me to the same beautiful place, though they couldn&#8217;t be more different in their form, printing quality and lastly, their production costs. From my experience, I am guessing there is somewhere in the neighborhood of 15,000.- euro difference in the total production costs for these 2 books. Thats not so interesting. What is interesting, and what is often forgotten, is some books just find the right form they need, others seem to miss the mark. I was equally pleased with each book as each photographer found the form needed to experience the work in the right way.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium;\">Nicholas Gottland<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Wild Prayer <\/strong>&#8211; Limited edition signed book\/newspaper\/pamphlet , 2009<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-507.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1010\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-508.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1011\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-509.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1012\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-510.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1013\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gottlundverlag.com\/\">Gottlund Verlag<\/a><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\"> production of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nicholasgottlund.com\/\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">Nicholas Gottland&#8217;s<\/span><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nicholasgottlund.com\/wildprayer.html\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">Wild Prayer<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\"> is a 16 page newspaper print. It feels like a newspaper and doesn&#8217;t try to be anything more or less. Surely a few of the images would be easier to read if they were in a high-end duotone print, but thats not its intention. It is an &#8220;..experiment with loosing consciousness, the fading effects of light over time&#8230;&#8221; These pages will fade, and become yellow; rightly so.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">not so with&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\">Bernhard Fuchs<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: verdana;\"><strong>Strassen und Wege<\/strong> &#8211; book, 2009<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-511.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1014\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-512.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1015\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-513.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1016\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/andrew-phelps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-514.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1017\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">This <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bernhard-fuchs.net\/\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">Bernhard Fuchs<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\"> book, from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buchhandlung-walther-koenig.de\/buchhandlung\/empfehlungen\/fotografie\/Default.aspx\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">Koenig Books<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">, is at the other end of the scale. It is as about as classic as you can get in its style, materials and a printing quality that probably can&#8217;t be topped. You know his <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bernhard-fuchs.net\/monographien.html\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">portraits<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">, you know his <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bernhard-fuchs.net\/monographien.html\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">cars<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: small;\">, these are the trails trodden by those folks, and sped along by those cars.
